I have now been twice to Lyon. The first time was on the way from Amboise to St Tropez and the second was to visit my cousin who lives there. It was so nice to have my cousin who was so knowledgeable about the city show us around on our second visit. Plus, she happens to have a wine tasting business- Lyon Wine Tastings. My first time in Lyon, I stuck to truly the touristy area between the two bridges where all the big hotels are & by the main square. The second time we visited we stayed at my cousins place which was between the 9th and 5th arr. She took us through the Old town which I had never been to before. Lyon is much bigger than I had originally thought. Some fun facts about Lyon, they have their own Eiffel Tour. Caroline told great stories about the history of Lyon but the Eiffel Tour might be my favorite. She said it was because the women were jealous of the women in Paris. So they had their own Eiffel Tour with a restaurant up top (not functioning today). The other fun part she told us was about Trebles. She kept trying to open all of these doors around Lyon. At first, i was confused why but she said that Lyon was know for textiles, so they created these covered walk ways between buildings ( connecting one street to another) to protect the died fabric from rain. Lyon has a ton more history that we barely scrapped the surface of but be sure to see the beautiful churches, Roman ruins and walk the bridges. The best church is up top- take the funicular up to the Basilica of Notre Dame of Fourviere.
