The Madonna Inn is a must if you visit San Luis Obispo, more commonly known as "SLO" and pronounced 'slow.' This was a real gem for Evan and me on our road trip. I did not let Evan in on my little secret- that I had booked us a room at the Madonna Inn. This hotel has been around since the 1950s, opened by Mr. Madonna. The room designs are incredibly unique. And by uniquely, you will not see this anywhere else (that I know of). Click here to see what I mean. We are talking pink, glitter, gold! If this hotel is not your vibe, not to worry. They have a new hotel downtown- The Granada.
There few hikes/mountain bike trails around SLO, one of the ones recommended to us was Bishop Peak. They say to hike up very early in the morning so that when you reach the top, you are above the cloud line. Other hikes include Cerro San Luis Trail (short walk), Montana de Oro State Park. Make sure to add Pismo Beach, Avila Beach, and Bubblegum Alley to your list. Breakfast Recs: Louisa's place (college kids love this spot), a charming diner known for biscuits and gravy. This place has also been around since the '50s! Coffee: Kruzbergs, Lineas, Scout Lunch Recs: Firestone (college spot) known for a tri-tip sandwich Dinner Recs: Ventana (ocean views), Novo (request the patio) Dessert: the champagne cake at Madonna Inn Highlights: Freemon theater, Morro Bay, Montana de Oro state park, Avila beach, Bubblegum Alley, the Mission, Cerro San Luis trail (hike), Pismo Beach |
