Topolabampo is a favorite for Evan and me. There is nothing that can beat Mexican food, great margaritas, wine, and a tasting menu. The first time Evan and I went was a few years ago, and Topo was giving guests the option of two menus- a mole menu or a regular menu. We both went mole, and thank goodness we did! It sure was dreamy. The menu was called the twelve moles (i think)—each of the twelve dishes featured some form of a mole. My mouth still waters thinking about it.
In terms of cocktails, in my opinion, nothing beats a mezcal margarita. Coming from Texas, I feel as though I am good at spotting a margarita when it's five stars in every category- presentation, initial taste, & after taste! The drinks at Topolo check every box. I like to start with the margarita and then work my way into the wine pairing or straight into a bottle of wine! Heading into the food, I have not put anything in my mouth that I didn't like. I will review my most recent experience, which was last Saturday, March 6, 2021. The restaurant was calling this experience Topolo 2.0. Due to covid and social distancing, they moved guests into Rick Bayless library and test kitchen (pictured up above on the right). I was nervous about the change in environment as Topolo 1.0 is cozy and well designed. It's always fun to walk through the mysterious doors in Fronterra into the fabulous entry of Topolo 1.0. However, I digress; I was not disappointed. The music and setting were on point, plus it was fun to watch the chefs prepare the cuisine. To get a taste of the music type in Topolo 2.0 in Spotify, you will not be disappointed. The menu on Saturday was related to pieces of art. There was a QR code to click, which lead to the artwork that inspired our dish. The one I remember the best was the piece that represented Nostalgia; it was one of the desserts we had (pictured on the right). It tasted straight up like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Add this to your list if you have not been! It is a must! |
